Step 1

• Always perform this task using a chainsaw.
• Wear your safety gear, including gloves, closed-toe shoes, chaps, and safety glasses.
• Ensure there are no trees, utility lines, or other structures nearby that could be damaged by a falling tree.

Step 2

• Fuel and start up your chainsaw according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Use the appropriate oil and fuel for the chainsaw.
• Always follow all safety and operating procedures.

Step 3

• Use your hands to locate the best spot on the trunk of the rotting palm.
• This spot is where you will make your first cut.
• Rotting and diseased palms are typically softer near the ground.
• Move your hands upward from the ground until you find a hard surface.

• Now cut one-third of the way through the palm upward at a 45-degree angle.
